Rival Sons caught my ear a couple of years ago with the neat trick of sounding like several of my favourite bands all at once. Immediately taken with their first major label release Pressure & Time - review of which can be found here - I first caught them live at Leeds Cockpit.
UK and European audiences have subsequently embraced the band - more so than their US counterparts - and the release of Head Down saw their sound broadening along with the growing audience.
I had the opportunity to interview singer Jay prior to their recent gig at Manchester Ritz to talk about the blues and how it informs the band's sound. Nice guy. Smelled faintly of patchouli and garlic. He was genuinely interested in talking about his first exposure to such music, with none of that taciturn rock star nonsense.
Also responsible for sowing the seeds of my current addiction to Jeffery-West shoes, a habit which my credit card and I are finding difficult to manage.
